Dead Space remake breathes new life into more than just Isaac

The Dead Space remake is adding a new lease of life to Issac's world, as EA Motive will unveil previously unseen characters through the game's story

Isaac in the Dead Space Remake on PS5

The terrors of the Dead Space remake are almost here, as developer EA Motive is set to deliver a revitalized take on Isaac’s gory antics. Though Isaac’s journey in Dead Space is mostly a lonely endeavour, a new addition to the game’s lore will give you some short-lived company as you repair the USG Ishimura. This time around, you’ll be meeting some previously unseen characters.

In a recent interview with Rely On Horror, Motive realisation director Joel MacMillan explains that “one of the other goals was to bring in pieces of lore from the surrounding series and make it feel like one consistent piece of storytelling.” MacMillan says that through examining “post-game text logs” and updating the lore, characters only seen in readable lore will seemingly get more screen time.

“This is a full revamp of the script […] one of the other goals was to bring in pieces of lore from the surrounding series and make it feel like one consistent piece of storytelling,” MacMillan details.

According to a new Inside Dead Space blog post, Creative Director Roman Campos-Oriola reiterates this decision: “What we tried to do in this game is add a bit more lore, or make some adjustments to the lore […] even characters like Jacob Temple and Elizabeth Cross, who were only really in audio logs in the original game, now actually have some screen time, and they have a role to play.”

Conversely, MacMillan elaborates that “it was important to give them more background […] there are some very compelling threads the players can follow through these new side quests.”

Players will get the chance to explore the USG Ishimura like never before too, as over “1200 unique events” can scare the player at any time while exploring “different areas of the ship at any point.”

We’re certainly not prepared for what awaits us in the shadows. While we hype ourselves to brave the Dead Space Remake release date, make sure you’re up to date with all the Dead Space Remake cast and voice actors.
