GTA 6 release window could see it square up with COD in Fall 2025

Rockstar Games shifts the GTA 6 release window to Fall 2025, putting it in a prime position to decimate major rivals like Call of Duty.

Iron your favorite summer shirt and put Tom Petty on again, GTA 6’s release window just got a major update. In a new Take-Two Interactive earnings call, the parent company of Rockstar Games sheds light on huge milestones for its mammoth franchises, but confirms that Grand Theft Auto 6 will now debut in Fall 2025. For any other game releasing in that slot, like Call of Duty, we don’t fancy their chances.

According to CEO Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s “outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games’ previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto 6.” When it does arrive, it is likely to surpass GTA 5’s gargantuan sales records, with the previous open world game entry generating $1 billion in revenue for Rockstar Games in just three days back in 2013.

At the time of writing, the GTA 6 trailer has amassed a staggering 190 million views, and at least 50 of them are me. But when will we see more about Rockstar’s next game, aside from learning the GTA 6 release date? While the studio isn’t prepared to reveal anything just yet, Zelnick says that players will learn more in the “fullness of time.” Helpful, right?

Until that fullness is ready to burst, we can’t help but ponder just how hectic the Fall 2025 release window will be for new PS5 games and new Xbox games going up against GTA 6. FPS game juggernauts like Call of Duty often settle for an October or November launch date, but there are likely countless other titles eyeing up that window too.

Of course, we can enjoy both games, but the hype for GTA 6 is palpable and there’s a lot of hope it’ll cement itself as one of the best games in Rockstar’s library – and maybe of all time. With development entering its “final stretch”, who knows, we might even see that rumored GTA 4 remaster in the meantime.

The good news is that unlike GTA 6, you can see more from the COD franchise, and heaps of other upcoming Xbox games soon: you can tune in to the Xbox Showcase on June 9 for a look at the heavily rumored Black Ops 6. But, if you’re still hungry for GTA 6 news, then it looks like the hunt for Jason’s voice actor might be over.
