Red Dead Redemption 2 saddles up for a PS Plus return

The PS Plus May lineup will see RDR2 ride back into the Extra and Premium catalog alongside the likes of Watch Dogs and Crime Boss: Rockay City.

Over 18 months after it was removed from the PS Plus games library, Red Dead Redemption 2 will return for Extra and Premium subscribers on May 21. As well as RDR2, there are several other great games being added as part of the PS Plus May lineup for PS4 and PS5 players, including Watch Dogs and Crime Boss: Rockay City.

We already learned that the likes of FC 24 and Ghostrunner are up for grabs as the free PS Plus games this month, but we’re just as impressed by the announcement that Red Dead Redemption 2 is saddling up for a PS Plus comeback. Rockstar’s essential open-world game initially left the PS Plus games library back in September 2022, but next week Arthur and the gang are back in business.

It’s interesting to see RDR2 get added back onto a major subscription service like PS Plus, as Rockstar has recently been making a concerted effort to get more people signed up to its GTA+ service by including more games from its back catalog. After increasing the monthly cost of GTA+, the likes LA Noire and the first Red Dead game have recently been added. RDR2 would be a big incentive to get people subbing to GTA+, but it seems Rockstar isn’t quite ready to commit to that yet. In the meantime, PS4 and PS5 players can finally tick it off of their backlog or revisit one of the best games of all time as part of PS Plus.

Of course, Red Dead Redemption 2 is not the only game being added to the Extra and Premium library. It’s joined by another open-world title that’s returning to PS Plus in Watch Dogs, sleuthing multiplayer game Deceive Inc, one of the most memed games in The Loadout Towers, Crime Boss: Rockay City, and more.

Here’s the full list of May PS Plus additions for Extra and Premium subscribers:

  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Watch Dogs
  • Crime Boss: Rockay City
  • Deceive Inc
  • Cat Quest
  • Cat Quest 2
  • The Settlers: New Allies
  • Stranded: Alien Dawn
  • The Lego Movie 2 Videogame
  • The Sims 4 City Living Expansion Pack

The PS Plus Classics catalog for Premium subscribers is also getting three new games, and they are:

  • 2Xtreme
  • G-Police
  • Worms Pinball

While RDR2 is certainly carrying this month’s lineup, getting more games on PS Plus is something never to be sniffed at. Be warned though that, as seems to happen every May, a big refresh is happening to the library, with several games set to leave on the 21st when these new titles arrive. That includes one of the best PS4 games ever in Horizon Zero Dawn, so act fast if you’re still yet to play it.
